A motivated model of inflation

I will first introduce the physics of inflation, then I will explain a particular model in which the inflaton is the radial field of a U(1) Peccei-Quinn symmetry, the “saxion”. We constraint the corrections to the Higgs mass to be small, in order to have model which is “natural”, and we explore the inflationary scenario in the axion direction only and in the mixed Higgs/saxion direction. We perform a numerical study of the preheating and find out that resonant production of the Higgs is always highly suppressed. The range of parameters allowed from naturalness and consistent with inflationary data also leads to all dark matter in the form of axion.
