Workshop on Cross-Scale Coupling in Plasmas
Measurements and operations
The implementation of multi-scale, multi-spacecraft missions and their
resulting measurements present a compelling
challenge for instrumentation, mission and science operations and data
systems. Recent multi-spacecraft missions, such as Cluster and THEMIS,
have advanced these aspects of spacecraft capability, in particular
with respect to multi-instrument production, calibration and
operations, constellation keeping and configuration changes, and
handling large volume of data (encompassing triggered and/or targeted
observations, data compression, etc.).
This session will focus on the requirements for the next generation of
multi-spacecraft missions, including instrumentation, synergetic
science operations, resolution issues for science measurements (e.g.
burst modes versus triggering), as well as considerations of how to
distribute, combine, and visualise multi-spacecraft data.
